Dining Directory — Accuracy Audit

An independent, line-by-line verification of the restaurant directory (/directory/restaurants/) on the Cerulean site — all 84 listings across five island regions. Every venue was checked on two questions: is it actually open right now, and are its details right — region, meal service, and the description a guest reads before driving out to dinner.

Each venue cross-checked in August 2026 against its current Yelp, Tripadvisor and official listing. The headline is a good one: this is a carefully built directory — every long-closed island legend (Harvey's, Villa Morales, the Galleon) was correctly kept off it. The items below are a short, specific punch-list, not a rebuild.

What the audit found

Of 84 listings, 72 are open and described correctly. One has announced it is closing (Six Nine, Frederiksted — the owners posted they are shutting the doors after six years, with a new concept to follow).

A further three need a quick owner confirm — one property that may now be dormant (Bungalows on the Bay), one that Yelp currently marks closed (Pizza Mare), and one the site's own research flagged for a fall closure (Too Chez).

The rest are small, fast edits: one seasonal restaurant that needs a winter-only note, one venue still tagged "opening soon" that has since opened, and a handful of meal-time labels to tighten.

Verdict

No invented venues, no long-dead "dark rooms." The directory is accurate to roughly 86% on first pass; the fixes are a sub-one-day pass, not structural.

Why accuracy is the whole game

A villa's on-site dining list is a trust document. A guest who drives twenty minutes to a restaurant that closed last month doesn't blame the restaurant — they blame the house that recommended it, and it lands in the review.

It is also an SEO asset in waiting. The site is noindex today; at the domain cutover, a genuinely complete, accurate 84-venue dining directory is exactly the kind of page that ranks for "where to eat in St. Croix" and "East End restaurants" — but only while it stays current. A directory with closed venues loses both the guest and the ranking.

That is the case for treating this list as something that gets re-verified on a schedule, not published once and forgotten.

Scope: every listing on the live /directory/restaurants/ page (East End 13 · Central & North Shore 25 · Christiansted 32 · Frederiksted 12 · West End 2).

Findings & fixes

Ordered by how likely a guest is to be affected. Every item ends in a concrete edit — most are a single line in the directory data.

Listing What we found Severity The fix
1 Six Nine Restaurant & BarFrederiksted The owners announced on their own page they are closing after six years, with "a new concept west in a few months." Still listed as open. Critical Remove now; watch for the successor venue and relist it when it opens.
2 Bungalows on the BayEast End · Chenay Bay Conflicting signals — recent visitor reports describe the property as effectively dormant with no restaurant on site, against older "open for breakfast" posts. High Confirm with the property; if the kitchen isn't running, remove until it reopens.
3 Pizza MareNorth Shore · La Grande Princesse Yelp lists it CLOSED as of Aug 2026; the venue's own site is still live and it has a history of open/close cycles. High Confirm directly before relying on it; remove or re-add based on the answer.
4 Too ChezChristiansted The directory's own source notes flagged a permanent closing around 12 Sept 2026; external listings still show it open and taking bookings. Unresolved. High One phone call settles it — keep with confidence or remove.
5 The Goat Soup & WhiskeyEast End · Coakley Bay Seasonal — open roughly December–April only. Listed with no seasonal note, so a summer guest is sent to a closed door. Medium Add a "Seasonal · winter" tag to the card.
6 The Terrace at The BuccaneerEast of Christiansted Open and correct — but its blurb credits a "Grotto Grill" for lunch. The Buccaneer's casual spot is now Beauregard's on the Beach (already listed separately); the Grotto name is retired. Medium Reword the blurb to drop "Grotto Grill."
7 Ciba MattaChristiansted Tagged "Opening soon," but it has since opened — active menu, now among the town's top-ranked Italian rooms. Medium Switch the tag to its real service (Dinner).
8 Meal-time labels5 venues A few tags overstate hours: dinner-only rooms tagged "lunch" (Ciboné, Smoke STX, Common Cents) and "breakfast" on venues that open midday (Cheeseburger in Paradise, Sea Terrace). Low Tighten the five meal strings to match posted hours.
9 Region placementA few listings Minor grouping quirks — Lost Dog Pub sits under "West End" while other Frederiksted-town spots are under "Frederiksted"; a couple of Gallows Bay venues fall under "Central & North Shore." Low Optional tidy-up of a handful of region labels.
Severity key Critical guest hits a closed door High confirm before it's relied on Medium stale detail Low label polish
The strong result

Seventy-two of eighty-four listings needed no change at all, and the migration from the legacy site correctly excluded every venue that had actually closed — the mark of a directory built from verified sources rather than scraped wholesale. The work below is maintenance, not repair.

How this was checked

We pulled the live directory page and took all 84 listings — not a sample. Each venue was verified against its current Yelp and Tripadvisor pages (for present-day hours and "closed" flags), its own official website or Facebook where one exists, and recent local coverage. We ran a dedicated closed-venue cross-check against known St. Croix closures, then confirmed each listing's region and meal service against posted hours.

Findings are ranked by guest impact, not by effort to fix — a single closed restaurant outranks a dozen label tweaks, because it's the one that produces a bad night and a review.

Coverage by region

Every listing in all five regions was checked — not a sample. Where the flags land:

Region Listings Clean Flags raised
East End 13 9 Bungalows on the Bay (confirm dormant), The Goat (seasonal note) + 2 meal-time tweaks
Central & North Shore 25 23 Pizza Mare (confirm closed), The Terrace blurb (retire "Grotto Grill")
Christiansted 32 29 Too Chez (confirm), Ciba Matta (now open) + 1 meal-time tweak
Frederiksted 12 9 Six Nine (closing) + 2 meal-time tweaks
West End 2 2 Clean — one optional region-label note (Lost Dog Pub)
"Clean" counts listings needing no edit; a venue with only a minor label tweak is counted as a flag, so the true guest-facing risk is smaller than the flag totals suggest.
SEO status

The directory is served noindex today while the site runs as a preview, so it ranks for nothing yet. At the theceruleanstcroix.com cutover it becomes a real local-search asset — a complete, verified dining guide is what earns "where to eat in St. Croix" and neighbourhood-level queries. Accuracy is the moat: the value holds only while the list stays free of closed rooms.

How Cavmir keeps it current

The nine items above are a single sub-one-day pass — most are one line each in the directory data, and Cavmir already holds the sourced research file behind every entry.

Because St. Croix's dining scene turns over quickly, we recommend a standing quarterly re-verification of the directory (and the companion bars, groceries and activities lists) — a fast automated closed-venue sweep plus a human check — so the guide a guest reads is the guide that's true that week.

Method: live-page review of every listing on /directory/restaurants/, each cross-checked against current third-party and official sources. Assessed 31 August 2026.
